Important Notices:

HDBaseT No Video
HDBaseT requires that connected equipment support what is known as Clock Stretching. While this feature was a requirement starting with HDMI 1.3, not all HDMI 1.3 products support it, and it was not a requirement for HDMI 1.2, which is still used in many set top boxes and AVRs. No video may appear if the devices connected to HDBaseT extenders do not support Clock Stretching.

Fortunately there is a simple work around that will allow the HDBaseT to work with these products. The solution is to insert a B-220-HDSPLTR-1X2, B-220-HDSPLTR-1X4 , or B-220-HDSPLTR-1X8 between the device and the HDBaseT extender. Click Here for Details

Power Supply Voltage
Binary HDBaseT HDMI extenders use a 24 Volt DC power supply. All other Binary HDMI extenders use a 5 Volt DC power supply, and matrix switchers with integrated Cat 5 extenders use 12 Volt DC supplies. Using the 24 Volt DC power supply with any 5 or 12 Volt Binary product will result in damage to the product and possibly the power supply. Be sure to use the correct power supply with the correct product!

Shielded Cable Recommendation
Although HDBaseT transmission technology is much less susceptible to EMI interference than other transmission technologies, if possible, it is recommended that you pull shielded Cat5e/Cat6 with this product for maximum reliability. Please note: for proper shielding, shielded connectors must be used with drains connected at both ends. In addition, “EZ end” connectors are not recommended for use with HDMI extenders.

Samsung UHD Compatibility
It has come to our attention recently that customers using Extenders and Matrix Switchers with HDBaseT technologies on select Samsung TVs may not be able to display video. Samsung has corrected this issue with a firmware update. Click here for details.

FAQs

EDID

  1. How do I set the EDID when using a B-500 extender?
    HDBaseT technology is designed to handle EDID's just as if you were using a short HDMI cable. There are no settings to worry about in regard to EDID.

IR & RS232 Passthrough

  1. Can I add additional emitters to the single emitter output of your HDBaseT extenders?
    Yes. Simply feed the IR signal from the extender into an IR distribution block and plug as many flashers as you need into it.
  2. Can I control an IR flasher plugged into the same end of the extender as my IR receiver or control system?
    No. There is no IR loop back on either end of the extender.
  3. Can I send RS232 over the IR ports?
    No. The B-500 series HDBaseT extenders support 2 way RS232 communication through dedicated DB9 connectors on each end. You can even set it to convert from straight through to null modem, eliminating the need for a certain type of serial cable for equipment.
  4. When do I use the supplied IR Adapter cable?
    The IR Adapter cable is used when connecting a control system flasher output to the IR Receiver port on the Receiver Unit. See the "Important Note: HDBaseT No Video" for more information.

IR Passthrough

  1. How do I add additional emitters to the single emitter output of the HDMI extender?
    By using an IR1x4 or IR 2x6 block, a mono cable , and as many IRF-1’s or -2’s as you need to flash each of your connected devices. Connect the mono cable to the flasher out port on the B-200-1CAT-HDIR, connect the mono-stereo adaptor included with the extender to the end of the mono cable, and plug the other end of the adaptor into the receiver port on the IR block.
  2. Does the IR on a HDIR series of extenders output on the same end as it is input?
    No. The IR passes from one end to the other but does not output on the same end.

Power

  1. Do I need to have power at both ends of the B-500 HDBaseT extender?
    No, it only requires 24 volts DC power on one end and can be powered from either side.
  2. Which end do the B-500 HDBaseT extenders power from?
    Either unit may be powered.
  3. Do your extenders automatically reset after a power outage?
    All of our HDMI extenders (1 cat and HDBaseT) automatically reset after power failures, restoring signal without the need to manually cycle power.

Wiring & Connections

  1. Do you have to use the 568B standard with our extenders?
    For HDBaseT, ALWAYS use 568b. HDBaseT standards specify this as the pin out that must be used. It is printed on the bottom of each extender for easy reference.
  2. Why is it necessary to use 2 meter or shorter cables at the transmit & receive ends of the extenders?
    The reason we recommend short cables is to increase the signal margin. In most cases HDMI cables longer than 2M will work without a problem but it is good practice to use the shortest cable possible.
  3. Do EZ style RJ-45 connectors really affect the reliability of HDMI extenders?
    Yes, they can be easily “wiggled” loose, causing a short or improper connection.
  4. Is it acceptable to use pre-made CAT5 patch cables with HDBaseT extenders?
    Yes, as long as you have 2 or less, 5 meter or shorter patch cables. Use a keystone coupler instead of a punch down for the best performance.
  5. Why do you recommend using shielded CAT5 wire with your extenders?
    Shielded wire improves noise rejection, which reduces the chance of video flicker when light, fans, or appliances switch on and off.
  6. The green HDBaseT Link light is on and solid at the matrix / extender transmitter and the receiver, but I do not have video on my display when I power it on. To get the picture back, I can either un-plug and re-plug the Category cable on the HDBaseT link, power cycle the HDBaseT receiver, or power cycle the HDBaseT matrix / extender transmitter. How do I correct this?
    We are pleased to say that with this issue, we have worked toward a solution with HDBaseT, and have since resolved it with an update in firmware. To update the firmware on our HDBaseT extenders, refer to the instructions in the documentation under the Support tab, labeled “B-500 Extender HDBT Firmware Update Procedure".
  7. Video is not displaying on my Samsung UHD television, what should I do to correct this?
    According to Samsung, the issue has been resolved with a firmware update. Update your TV to the most recent version of firmware, found on Samsung's website. For more information about this particular issue, see the support tab document labeled, "Samsung UHD Compatibility - Resolved 7/18/2014".
  8. Will HDBaseT Extenders fit in this shelf?
    To accommodate for additional circuitry and heat ventilation, the newer B-500-EXT-230-RS and B-500-EXT-330-RS-IP were designed with a larger chassis than our legacy extenders at the time (such as the B-320-1CAT-HDIR, B-400-1COAX-HDIR, et al). The Extender and Accessory Rack Shelf was originally designed for the extenders which existed prior to the release of the HDBaseT extenders. With the larger extender chassis being 1U taller when vertical, there are just a couple of things to account for. Make sure that you have 4U of total height for the shelf; installation in the rear of the rack is best. The extender can be secured with double-sided sticky tape, or preferably Velcro to accommodate for the thicker housing body and mounting ears. 2-Year Limited Warranty
This Binary™ Product has a Two-Year Limited Warranty.  This warranty includes parts and labor repairs on all components found to be defective in material or workmanship under normal conditions of use.  This warranty shall not apply to products which have been abused, modified or disassembled.  Products to be repaired under this warranty must be returned to SnapAV or a designated service center with prior notification and an assigned return authorization number (RA).
