Troubleshooting Guide - Baluns

Problem:  Double image seen on lettering. Frequently referred to as “Ghosting”. Most often seen on Cable TV or SAT Menu.

SnapAV
Products Affected:

B-RGBD-500
B-RGBIR-500
B-LRCIR-2200
KIT-B-RGBD-500
B-RGBLR-350

Causes:

  1. Cable signal over amplification. An overly strong signal will bounce and reflect back within the coax causing a double image.
  2. Poor quality RCA cables (the ones included with the cable box or component for instance) these are not built to a high standard and can are often the source of this issue.
Solution:
  1. Test the cable signal strength and confirm the signal is not over +5db before the cable box. Anything over +5 could cause ghosting throughout the system. Use a signal attenuator to reduce the signal strength or have the cable company adjust the main signal. Adding a cable splitter to the cable path will also reduce the strength by a few dB.
  2. Replace the RCA cables with higher quality cables – Episode B5 RCA cables are a great choice!
