Technology Overview

Sense-Up (Slow Shutter)

See in color -in the dark! By automatically slowing the shutter speed, the camera is able to pick up the slightest traces of light to display a bright image.

OSD

Optimize performance by tailoring the camera’s settings for the specific application using the on-screen menu. An RS-485 connection is available to remotely change these settings with a compatible DVR.

S-WDR (Super Wide Dynamic Range)

Provides clearer images and even lighting in applications that are simultaneously both bright and dark. This is particularly useful in areas with windows and lots of natural light.

Backlight Compensation (BLC)

Reduces silhouetting so you see foreground subjects clearly when positioned in front of a bright background light source.

Highlight Compensation (HLC)

Don't get blinded by the light! By blocking headlights and other intensely bright areas, contrast is dramatically improved for critical areas of the image.

True Day/Night (IR Cut Filter)

For more accurate, vivid color reproduction during daytime use, an IR Cut filter is automatically moved over the lens to block unwanted IR. At night, the filter is removed to deliver maximum visibility and clear IR illumination.

Smart IR

Automatically adjusts the amount of IR LED intensity to eliminate over-exposure and evenly illuminate the subject.

3D DNR (Digital Noise Reduction)

A powerful digital signal processor (DSP) intelligently scans the image and reduces noise in low-lux conditions for a cleaner, crisper image.

Privacy Masking

Block out sensitive or privileged areas by placing rectangular blocks or "masks" over installer-defined areas.

Installation Tips and Troubleshooting

WPS Camera Video Test Port
The Wirepath™ Surveillance 500 and 700 series bullet cameras includes a Video Test Port to test and setup cameras using our WPS-CCTV –TESTER. This feature provides quick connection to Wirepath Bullet cameras for testing and setup without the need to disconnect the camera from the system. A BNC adapter is supplied with all 300 Wirepath Bullet cameras.

A BNC adapter is supplied with all 500 and 700 series Wirepath Bullet cameras.

Connecting to the Camera
  1. Remove the lens cap
  2. Remove the Silica pack from the camera housing located inside the lens cap and place aside. You will need to replace this
pack once the installation is complete.
  3. Locate the small black 2-pin connector inside the camera.
  4. Connect the small plug end of the BNC adapter to the black
    2-pin connector.
  5. Using the BNC cable supplied with the WPS-CCTV-TESTER,
connect the BNC adapter the WPS-CCTV-TESTER Video In.
  6. Perform the needed tests and setup on the camera.
  7. Disconnect the BNC adapter from the camera, replace the
Silica pack removed in step1 and reattach the lens cap.

Varifocal Settings
The mechanics of how the zoom operates will allow you to adjust the setting slightly past the limits causing the image to be out of focus. If you experience this during installation, simply move the zoom lever slightly away from the minimum or maximum position, then use the focus lever to bring it into focus. The specs for the camera’s varifocal lens are considered in the setup procedure, therefore there is no loss in the camera’s wide angle or telephoto abilities.

FAQs

Environment

  1. Which of your cameras are designed for outdoor applications?
The only indoor only analog cameras we carry are the WPS-100-DOM and -BUL, and WPS-300-DOM Cameras.
  2. I need to install your camera outside. What is the lowest temperature they are tested to?
Our standard outdoor cameras have been tested to be fully operational form 14°F to 140°F. For extreme cold environments down to -40°F, consider our flagship 750 series outdoor analog cameras, which feature a built-in heater to ensure sub zero temperature reliability.

Installation & Setup

  1. How do I set a camera up at the installation site before connecting it at the DVR?
With the WPS-CCTV-TESTER you can connect a camera at the actual installation location for set up and calibration. All models feature a quick access port and adapter for conveniently attaching a setup monitor with the camera mounted in its final location.
  2. I installed a camera near a garage door opener and I am now experiencing issues with the opener. What can I do?
We have heard from a few dealers that have experienced interference with certain garage doors. Click here to see more details on the issue.

Power

  1. Which power supply should I use for my CCTV cameras?
The 100 and 300 series cameras can only use a 12v DC power supply. The 500 and 700 series can handle a 12v DC or a 24v AC power supply.

Wiring & Connections

  1. What type of cable should be pulled for proper installation of cameras?
Either RG59 or RG6 coaxial cable is needed for the video signal. 18 gauge or larger 2 conductor wire is required for power and a CAT5e/6 is recommended for OSD set up. Use the Wire Length tool on the Surveillance Calculators page to help determine the right size wire to carry enough voltage to your cameras. Also, check out our camera baluns on the Accessories page which can carry all power and signal over a single cat5e/6 cable.
  2. How long of a wire can I connect to power my cameras?
General calculations can be made using the voltage drop calculator tool on our website. This is located under the support tab of each camera item page.
