The ES-HT950-IWSURR-6 In-wall Surround speaker is an in-wall tour de force that is purpose-built for serious home theater enthusiasts. The same premium components found in our other 900-series speakers have been selected to create this 3-way bi-pole / di-pole system. Dual 4.65 in. ribbons and 4 in. honeycomb midrange drivers create a wide rear soundstage, while our 6.5 in. NCS woofer delivers the low-end punch for the ultimate cinematic experience.
This Swiss Army® knife of surround speakers may be configured for 5.1 or 7.1 systems, in either bi-pole or di-pole operation. Bi-pole mode is suited for larger rooms, while di-pole is perfect for tighter quarters or dedicated theaters where an enhanced sense of space is desired.
Just like the name implies, a "surround speaker" should envelope the listener in a large three-dimensional soundstage. That's why we've given this speaker TWO premium 4.65 in. ribbon tweeters. Each high-efficiency design features powerful neodymium magnets and a lightweight Kapton® ribbon for unsurpassed sensitivity, frequency response and linearity. What's more, the dispersion pattern has been specifically tuned for home theater applications – with a wide horizontal dispersion to put everyone in the sweet spot!
For optimum bi-pole/di-pole performance, our engineers designed a 3-way system, coupling the woofers and tweeters with two honeycomb midranges. Each 4 in. midrange is made from a lightweight, yet strong, honeycomb material that makes it the perfect choice for this application – with punchy mid-bass, plus the speed and transient response required to efficiently pair with the ribbon tweeter.
We've combined the strength of Kevlar® with the natural damping qualities of paper in a unique woofer material. A multi-step drying process during manufacturing enables these drivers to retain a natural, open cell structure that results in well-damped, neutral acoustic characteristics. The result is tighter bass with lower distortion from this single 6-1/2 in. driver.
No two rooms are alike. Floor coverings, drapes, windows and furniture all impact how a speaker sounds in a room. You can easily fine tune the bass for boundary gain, adjust the midrange for vocal accuracy, or tweak the treble for a boost when mounting behind grill cloth.
No two walls are exactly the same. They are different shapes and sizes, some have insulation, and they may be built from different materials. That's why our engineers designed a sealed enclosure made from rigid 3/4 in. MDF. Sure, this costs more than typical "infinite baffle" (or open-backed) designs, but the rewards present themselves in more predictable performance – meaning that both you and your customers will enjoy that same Episode® quality, time and time again.
You may have noticed, we’re serious about sound. But we also believe that high-performance doesn’t have to mean high-frustration. Great care was taken to ensure these speakers install just as easily as our traditional in-walls. No amenities were overlooked, like integrated dog-toggles, wire channels and bi-wiring / bi-amping support for premium performance and dynamic range in home theater applications. There's even a paintable, magnetic grill that quickly snaps into place to give the install that clean, professional look.
