General

  • What does a SureCall system consist of?
    A SureCall signal booster system consists of a minimum of three main components, in various forms. 1) An outside antenna, 2) a bi-directional booster, and 3) an inside antenna. These components connect together with SureCall 400 Series cable.
  • What is attenuation?
    Attenuation is the reduction of signal strength during transmission. Attenuation is essentially the opposite of amplification, and is normal when any signal is sent from one point to another.
  • What is oscillation?
    Oscillation is signal feedback, much like in audio. Oscillation occurs when the output of one antenna feeds into the input of another, causing a loop. Just like when a microphone is placed near a speaker and a high pitched noise is produced, if the outside antenna and the inside antenna of a signal booster system are too close, “noise” will be created. All of SureCall boosters feature oscillation detection and protection technology and auto shut-down to prevent oscillation from occurring.
  • What is gain?
    Gain is the ratio of output power to input power, respectively. Gain is usually expressed in decibels and is typically abbreviated as “dB.” Antenna and signal booster gain is presented as a number in positive decibels and represents the amount of signal improvement.
  • What temperature range can my booster operate at?
    SureCall boosters can operate at a wide range of temperatures – Up to 150°F
  • How much area will my booster cover?
    Coverage area depends upon several factors – outside signal, strength of the booster, building materials, and what SureCall components are being used. For assistance selecting the correct booster and determining what coverage area you could expect, please contact our technical support team.
  • What do the flashing lights mean on the booster?
    • Solid Red: Band is off
    • Flashing Red: Signal coming into the booster from the cellular tower is too strong, causing the booster to shut down. There are two possible solutions. 1) You can add an inline attenuator to the cable coming into the booster. 2) Relocate the outdoor antenna to a location where the signal is weaker.
    • Solid Yellow: Indicates an inactive band. Light is off when band is active
    • Flashing Yellow: Automatic Gain Control (AGC) is adjusting as part of the normal operation
    • Yellow/Red Alternate Flashing: Oscillation is detected. First try increasing the separation between the indoor and outdoor antennas. If this doesn't eliminate oscillation, lower the dB gain in 5dB increments.
    • Solid Green: Normal operation
  • What frequency does my carrier use?
    Traditionally, carriers within the United States use 800 MHz and 1900 MHz for voice and 3G signals. 4G and enhanced 3G capabilities can also be used on other frequencies such as 700 MHz and 1700/2100 MHz. Please check with your local area to ensure there are no variations.
  • Setup & Installation

  • Can I use my existing RG6 or RG11 coaxial cable? (standard TV/satellite cable)
    We always recommend that the integrator uses our SureCall 400 or 600 series Ultra Low Loss 50Ω Cable. If this is not an option, the integrator can purchase a “N” to “F” adaptor to use the existing cable. Caution:Using a 75Ω cable will reduce the performance of these boosters by almost 30 percent due to the loss associated with an RG11 or RG5 cable.
  • How long can I run the coax cable?
    Any amount of cable you use will have a certain amount of loss. The lengths that have been provided in kits are within an amount of acceptable loss – longer cables will have more loss. While there is no specific number for the longest cable you can use, eventually you will reach a length where the line-loss outweighs the gain. Factors that affect the max length of cables include outside signal strength, cable type, and booster model. For SureCall boosters, for cable runs which exceed 120 feet, we typically recommend our SureCall 600 Ultra Low loss cable.
