FAQs
FAQ

Audio & Video

  • What should I use for the audio portion of the system?
The Nearus camera provides the video portion of the system over a USB connection. Similarly, you will need to provide integrated audio with a USB connection - so that it can be selected as the audio device in the software's settings. We recommend utilizing our ClearOne line of products. The ClearOne Interact system allows for integrating up to 9 microphones in the conference room and provides a USB audio connection. For smaller rooms (4-6 person huddle rooms) the ClearOne Chat 150 can be used. By using one of our USB hubs, the Nearus camera and ClearOne audio devices can be connect to the hub which is then connected to the PC by a single wire.
  • General

  • How is Nearus Web Conferencing different from traditional video conferencing?
Nearus conferencing provides small to medium sized businesses with an easy to use, cost effective solution for video communication in the conference room. Whereas traditional codec based systems required expensive, dedicated hardware that can be difficult to use, Nearus allows the user to work with any standard PC to engage video calls via software - Skype, Google Hangouts, Webex, GoToMeeting, BlueJeans, Zoom, Lync, Cisco Jabber, etc.
  • How do I make this easy to understand for those who haven’t used it before?
Nearus web conferencing simply provides the same desktop expenience - just in the conference room. It functions just like your standard web chat program does at your desktop (like Skype), but makes it fully integrated in the conference room. The user simply uses the dedicated room PC or brings in their own PC, selects the Nearus camera as the video camera, and engages the video call with their preferred web chat program. It is perfect for users who already do video calls from their desk and want to bring that same experience with them into the conference room.
  • What makes Nearus so easy and affordable?
The Nearus camera has a few key features that allow it to open up this whole new market. First, it outputs video over a USB connection in a similar fashion to a standard webcam. Second, it has the lens optics that provide the necessary feild of view and zoom for standard conference and training rooms. Lastly, it comes with all the accessories integrators need to make it easy to install - like wall mount shelf, serial & IR control with presets, and USB extender products (found on our site).
  • Setup & Installation

  • Should I use a dedicated room PC or just provide a USB connection at the table for anyone to bring in their own laptop?
A dedicated room PC (such as Mac Mini, Intel NUC, or Chomebox) is typically the best option for most customers. It ensures that the system is always going to function as designed. The users just need to login to their account and engage the video call. For more technical savy groups, the system can be setup for users to plug in the USB connection to their laptop directly. This setup allows users to have full access to all of their documents and setting of their personal PC for use in the conference room and during calls. This method is best left for smaller, more technical staffs that can work with the occasional hiccups of drivers loading and setting changes.
  • What is the best way to understand how to design a Nearus Video Conference System?
Just head to the Support Document tab and click on the System Design Diagram link.
  • What should I do if the camera driver does not load properly?
Typically, once the camera driver loads and the camera is selected in the software, these settings are saved and persistent. If the PC does not load the driver properly when plugged in the first time, take these steps: go to Device Manager, find the camera under 'Imaging Devices' or 'Other Devices', right-click on it and select Uninstall, then right-click and select 'Scan for hardware changes'. It will load a new driver and should work properly. If not, try restarting and going through this process again.
