Episode® Electronics Surface Mount Plasma/LED-Proof IR Receiver with LED Feedback

This surface mount IR receiver packs the most desired features into a compact, easy-to-hide form factor. It’s resistant to plasma/LCD display interference and supports broadband IR and compressed codes, meaning that it can handle even the toughest devices - like AT&T U-verse boxes.

Compact Size

This low-profile IR receiver is the perfect fit to newer flat panel LCD TVs. At only 1/3" deep and with a solid black finish, it is able to "hide" in plain sight.

Talkback LED

A talkback LED blinks when receiving IR or interference. This is ideal when troubleshooting and is equally as valuable to the end-user as visual confirmation that the IR is being received.

Integrated Wire Channel

Located on the back of the IR receiver is a recessed channel that keeps the wire tucked in and allows it to exit from the left, right, or straight through the back.

Adhesive Backing

With its peel and stick adhesive backing, this compact IR receiver can easily be applied to the front of a flat panel display, cabinet or just about anywhere.

Universal Acclaim

This receiver works with virtually all A/V components and remote controls – even AT&T U-verse! This is thanks to wideband IR capability (30-60kHz) and support of RCMM compressed codes.

IR Filtering Technology

In addition to blocking common interference from plasma and LCD displays, it is also resistant to sunlight, Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFL), Electro-Magnetic Interference (EMI), and Electrostatic Interference (ESI). Best of all, it has the "smarts" to do all this without impacting reception and performance.

Going The Distance

This Episode IR receiver features dual diodes for long-range reception up to 40 feet and off-axis response up to 30 degrees in any direction. NOTE: IR distance is dependent on remote strength and ambient noise conditions.

FAQs
FAQ

General

  • Using your IR2X6 connecting block with 2 identical sources, I am having an issue with both devices responding. What can I do to fix this?
If the two devices are close to each other (e.g. stacked in a cabinet) use the supplied IR emitter blocking covers to prevent IR "bleed" from one component to another.
  • Can I connect more than one IR receiver to the screw terminals of the IR1X4 or 2X6 connecting block?
You can parallel up to 4 IR receivers to the screw terminals of the IR connecting block.
  • My LED display seems to be interfering with the operation of your IR-receivers. What can I do to alleviate this issue?
You can relocate the receiver away from the power supply of the display (usually a source of high EMI). If possible, try locating the receiver behind the face of the display (e.g. the wall or the face of a shelf). IR will usually reflect into the receiver just as effectively as if it were exposed.
  • I'm getting constant feedback (solid lights) on the IR receiver and have intermittent signal transfer issues (i.e.. changing channels/volume) with the IR receiver extended over Cat-5. Is there anything I can do to remedy this?
Yes. First, try moving the IR receiver to a different area on the TV. It is also recommended to use the supplied 470 ohm resistor on the connecting block, bridged across signal and ground terminals.
  • Setup & Installation

  • How do I extend the wiring for IR repeaters?

It is often necessary to extend the wiring of IR repeater systems so that it reaches between the controlled equipment and the source of the IR signals. You can use almost any type of multi-conductor wire that has the right conductors (at least 24 AWG), but we recommend using Cat5e/6 because it is common, will have more than enough conductors, and may have already been installed where you need it on retrofit jobs.

IR Receiver or flasher wiring may be extended up to about 150 feet using this method. To extend a flasher signal, use one pair from the cable, splice the flasher head on one side and the male mono mini jack on the other, making sure not to change the wiring pattern from end to end. Use a pair for each conductor (plus and minus) if signal is not reliable.

To extend IR receiver wiring, use use the wiring diagram illustrated below. Be sure to splice the same conductors in the same order at both ends.
